Day Two Scores

STANFORD, Calif. (SMU) – The SMU men's golf team closed day two of The Goodwin finishing tied for second place among a 28-team field comprised of seven of the nation's top-50 teams.

Host No. 14 Stanford remains in first, finishing eight under on the day and completing the second round with a 20-under 540 team total. The Mustangs trail Stanford by seven strokes and are tied with No. 47 Nevada with a 13-under 547.

A team-low three-under 67 for junior Tyson Dinsmore led SMU through the second day, placing him tied for 18th. Dinsmore totaled even par through the front nine, hitting two birdies on holes one and five, followed by a clean sheet on the back nine with three birdies to complete the Mustangs' best round of the day. A four-under 136 through 36 holes leaves Dinsmore in position to attempt a career tournament low entering the final day, with his current best sitting at +3, 216, completed at the Trinity Forest Invitational in 2018. Dinsmore's 11 birdies through the opening two rounds is currently the third-highest mark against the field.

A two-under 68 day for senior Noah Goodwin led SMU through round two, rounding out his 36-hole total at six-under 134 and finishing the day tied for tenth place. Hitting par or better on 16 holes, the American Conference Golfer of the Year hit even-par through the front nine, followed by a three-birdie performance after the turn. Goodwin's three-under on par threes is currently the second-best of the field, with a stroke average of 2.70.

Senior Justin Thompson and Junior Ollie Osborne completed day two one stroke above par. A three-under performance on the back nine, boosted by an eagle on a 16th-hole par five left Osborne with a one-under 139 entering the final round. Thompson hit two under through the front nine in including three birdies, and a fourth on the final hole to complete day two with an even-par 140.

Through the opening two rounds, the Mustangs tallied a second-best 19-under on par fives, with a stroke average of 4.37. Stanford leads in the category one stroke ahead, averaging 4.33.

Osborne's eagle on the 16th hole was SMU's fourth of the tournament, second-best to Stanford's 20.

40 total birdies for the Mustangs marks the third-best figure of the field, trailing Georgia Tech's 42 and BYU's 46.

In a day three draw with leading teams Stanford, Nevada, and Washington, the Mustangs open the final round of The Goodwin at 3:20 CT on hole one.
