Mustangs Ranked Fourth In Texas Following 2021-22 Season

DALLAS – Coming off a historic 2021-22 season, SMU men's tennis has been ranked fourth in the Texas Region by the ITA. The Mustangs find themselves ahead of both Texas A&M and Texas Tech in the rankings. SMU won its first AAC Championship and went 22-7 with 10 ranked wins during the season. Each of the three teams ahead of SMU are ranked in the top 12 nationally. These include No. 3 TCU, No. 4 Baylor, and No. 12 Texas.
In addition to the Mustangs' team ranking, the ITA has also ranked two of their players in the top 20 individually for the region. After his impressive sophomore campaign, Liam Krall is ranked No. 15. Krall went 26-7 overall, 18-3 in dual matches, and won the AAC Championships' award for Most Outstanding Player after clinching the semifinal and the final. Fellow sophomore Adam Neff is ranked No. 20, having been the primary line No. 1 player for the Mustangs throughout the season. Neff held a 16-15 overall record and an 11-12 dual record.
Neff and his doubles partner Pranav Kumar also came in as the sixth ranked doubles team in the region. The pairing played all of their matches at the No. 1 line and went 8-2 during the season. They are ranked No. 56 nationally by the ITA.
Following the release of the regional rankings, head coach Grant Chen stated, "We have such a strong national presence in our state of Texas. One of our goals has been to be a staple in our state. We went 8-2 against in-state opponents and look forward to building on that in future seasons."
