United Soccer Coaches Release
Kansas City, MO (SMU/United Soccer Coaches) – Graduate senior midfielder Courney Sebazco of the SMU Women's soccer team was named to the 2022 Women's Hermann Trophy Watch List, the Missouri Athletic Club announced on Thursday – one of 60 NCAA Division I women's soccer players to make the list.
The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.
Sebazco proved a key component of a Mustang offense in 2021 which ranked in the 20
th percentile nationally in shot accuracy, with Sebazco posting 20 shots on-frame for the season (.526). Sebazco totaled four goals and four assists on the year, including a two-goal outing against 2021 Southland Champion Northwestern State in the Mustangs' home opener on Aug. 22.
SMU women's soccer opens its 2022 season on Thursday, hosting Rice at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium at 7 p.m.
About the Hermann Trophy
In 1967, Robert Hermann, the president of the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the NPSL's successor, the North American Soccer League, established a trophy to annually recognize the top men's collegiate soccer player. The trophy, named the Hermann Trophy, has been awarded each year since 1967. In 1988, a second Hermann Trophy was inaugurated to recognize the top women's collegiate player of the year.
