Courtney Sebazco of the SMU women's soccer team was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, along with freshman defender
Peyton Annen earning Rookie of the Week recognition, the league announced on Monday.
The No. 23 Mustangs opened the season with a 1-0-1 mark, defeating Rice 2-1 on Aug. 18, followed by a 1-1 draw against No. 11 Tennessee on Sunday.
Sebazco, a MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List honoree, started 2022 with one goal and an assist in the opening two matches, delivering the 2-1 game winner against Rice, along with serving up a free-kick assist to Annen against the Lady Vols.
Annen capitalized on Sebazco's pass into the box, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career against 2021 SEC Champion Tennessee – a team which set a program record with 20 wins in its previous season.
Veteran goalkeeper
Samantha Estrada was named to the AAC week one Honor Roll. Playing all 180 minutes in the net for SMU in the Mustangs' opening week. Estrada faced 32 shots (5 shots on-goal versus Rice; 11 shots on-goal at No. 11 Tennessee), making 13 saves and allowing only one goal in both matches.
The No. 23 Mustangs return to Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 28 to host the Northwestern State Lady Demons at 7 p.m.
