SMU women's tennis travels to North Carolina to take on Wisconsin in the first round of the Duke Regional. First serve is at 1 p.m. at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
 
Duke is the No. 1 seed, SMU will be the No. 2 seed, followed by Wisconsin at No. 3 and VCU at No. 4.
 
The ITA Kickoff Weekend is one of the most important events of the spring season. The top 60 women's college tennis teams come together for a weekend of competition against programs they do not typically face. Each team is playing for the chance to be one of the 15 teams to advance to the 2023 ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle, Washington.
 
Duke is one of 15 host schools as they finished the 2022 season ranked No. 4. The host sites are determined based off the final 2022 ITA Rankings. The remaining 45 teams participate in a draft where the head coach selects which home site they would like to compete at. Draft order starts with the No. 16 team finishing with the No. 60 ranked team.
 
The Mustangs ended the 2022 season ranked No. 44. SMU made it to the AAC semifinals before falling to Tulsa 4-3. No. 45 Wisconsin closed its season in the Big Ten Conference Tournament semifinals. No. 4 Duke, the 2022 AAC Champion, fell in the NCAA semifinals to eventual runner-up Oklahoma.
 
Mustangs Mark
Drew Morris was named the AAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on January 24^th. Morris has gone 3-0 in singles play through the first three dual matches, with all three victories in straight sets. She led the Mustangs to wins over Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word in their home opener. She picked up the Mustangs first victory over No. 1 ranked Texas. Morris added a doubles win with partner Maja Makoric against Incarnate Word making her undefeated. Lana Mavor also remains undefeated throughout the 2023 season going 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles with partner Hadley Doyle. No. 32 ranked Taylor Johnson and Jackie Nylander are 2-1 in doubles play over the season with one loss against top ranked Texas.
 
Scouting The Opponent
The Badgers are coming off a split double header against No. 2 North Carolina and Samford. Wisconsin fell to North Carolina 6-1 while defeating Samford 7-0 improving their record to 2-1.

The Mustangs traveled to Austin January 21^st to take on No. 1 Texas Longhorns. SMU picked up its first loss of the 2023 dual match season 5-2. The Mustangs got down in a hurry as they lost the doubles point and the first two singles matches. Drew Morris picked up the Mustangs' first victory of the day as she defeated Taisiya Pachkaleva 6-4, 6-3. Lana Mavor closed in the once 3-0 lead as she defeated Grace Thomas 6-4, 6-0. The Longhorns ended up taking the victory as Nicole Rivkin defeated Maja Makoric in a third set.
