WACO (SMU) – Caroline McGinley, Millie Skelton and Maja Makoric won their singles matches on the last day of play at the H-E-B Invitational on Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center. Reka Patel opened the Invitational with a win in singles and doubles on day one.

McGinley — making her collegiate debut — won every match she played. This included three singles matches against players from Illinois, Nebraska and Lamar, as well as five doubles matches partnered with Maja Makoric. 

The pair bested Nebraska (6–3), Missouri (6-2), Illinois (6-1), Lamar (6-0), and another Illinois duo (6-4) once more during the final day of play.

Skelton and Patel partnered for doubles throughout the competition, featuring a 6-4 win over Nebraska's Jillian Roa/Anfisa Danilchenko.

On the first day of the Invite, Patel also bested Illinois's Rose Seccia (6-4, 6-1) in singles' play.

In Sunday's events, three Mustangs earned back-to-back-to-back wins. McGinley defeated Nouray Metwally from Lamar 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, followed by a win from Skelton over Lamar's Megan Do 7-5, 1-6, 10-7, and Makoric's  6-2, 6-2 win over Elena Rubio from Lamar.

Competition for SMU women's tennis continues as the Mustangs host the SMU Invitational the weekend of Oct. 6 through Oct. 8, at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex with opposing teams to be announced shortly.
