SAN MARCOS, Texas (SMU) – SMU women's golf won the Jim West Challenge, breaking four SMU records in route to a nine-stroke victory at Kissing Tree Golf Club. Senior
Ellie Szeryk captured the individual title at 16-under.

The Mustangs came into the day in a three-way tie for first at 15-under with Houston and Texas State. SMU started the day on a tear quickly opening a 10-stroke lead thanks to incredibly low early scores across the team. The Mustangs continued their hot streak throughout the day eventually finishing at 23-under par. The 18-hole score shattered the previous SMU record of -14 set back at The American Championship in April of 2023.

The Mustangs also finished the tournament at 38-under par, again  breaking the program record set at the 2023 AAC Championship of 25-under. The team title gave the Mustangs seven tournament crowns since the start of the 2022-23 season and eight in the
Lauren Mason era.

Szeryk won her first career tournament title with a one-stroke victory. Szeryk played bogey free in the final round including an eagle on No. 5. She finished the day at nine-under par, tied for the second lowest round in Mustang history. The win gave her eight top-10 finishes since she started at SMU in the fall of 2022.

Mackenzie Lee set a new SMU record with an 18-hole score of 10-under par. Her record-setting day started by going five-under in the first four holes thanks to three birdies and an eagle on No. 3. She finished the front nine at an astounding 29 strokes. She would shoot three-under in the back nine to bring her 10-under for the day. She gained 11 spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for fourth place.

Tess Davenport started her day with three straight birdies. She would eagle 18 and finish the day with her second score of 68 of the tournament. She moved up the leaderboard on the final day to finish in a tie for 16
th.

June Song shot one over par on the final day. She would finish two-under for the tournament in a share of 28
th.

Ashley Chow had her best round of the tournament on the final day thanks to an even par score. She concluded play in a tie for 51
st.
Â
The Mustangs return to the course on Friday October 27 for the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., the final event of the fall calendar.
