Mustangs Place Third in the 2023 AAC Championships

GREENVILLE, North Carolina (SMU) -- SMU earned a podium finish with their third-place finish at the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning with three Mustangs earning All-Conference honors. Kaitlyn Gearin placed third overall with a time of 20:50.6.

"Kaitlyn Gearin ran a perfectly executed race," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "She put herself in position to fight for a team title. Maddie and Flora had good days and improved positions over the final two kilometers."

Maddie Hulcy placed 11th running 21:19.9. Flora Tissier completed her goal of earning All-Conference honors with a 15th place finish in her first AAC Championships.

Hulcy said it was a tough day to fall short of their goal of winning, but she knows they have more to give as a team and will turn their focus to regionals now.

"I was really proud to see Kaitlyn in a third-place finish, and I'm happy to bring home one more All-Conference medal in my final year," Hulcy said.

Leoni Mierswa and Kendall Saeger ran together placing 23rd and 24th. Faustine Chaboche was the final Mustang scored placing 33rd with a time just over 22 minutes.

Macey Hilton and Jessie Crowley placed 51st and 66th out of the field of 108 athletes.

The Mustangs will have one weekend off competition before competing in the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on November 10th in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

"It is always great putting three women in All-Conference honors," Haynes said. "We came up short with a capable team. Everyone wanted more than the result showed and we will bounce back to compete again at South Central Regionals."
