DALLAS (SMU) –
Jack Hoagland won the 400 IM with the fourth-best time in program history on the first day of SMU Classic at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center in night one of action at the SMU Classic on Friday.

Hoagland, hailing to the Hilltop after previously being named the 2023 ACC Champion in the 400-yard individual medley, earned a spot in SMU's all-time top 10. He won the Championship Final with a time of 3:45.39, placing him at No. 4 in the program's record books and also earning himself an NCAA B Cut.

"We've been kind of waiting to see Jack swim a 400 IM since he got here," Rhodenbaugh said. "And that's a nice breakout swim. He's outstanding, but he's an outstanding racer first."

The two-day event is being held at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.

The event welcomes top competition from around the country — Auburn, Louisville, Missouri, USC, Texas — and features eight swimmers and one diver from each competing institution. Each swimmer may compete in three events per day with one required to be a relay, and events will be contested in two heats, with one swimmer from each school in each heat. Divers will compete on 1 and 3 meter.

"I thought we competed really well," head men's swimming coach Greg Rhodenbaugh said. "That's a great place to be, especially with this group."

The 400 medley relay team consisting of Jack Easton, Angus Corbeau, Russell Exum and Lance Butler touched the wall at the 3:12.02 mark. In the final event of the night, Jack Hoagland, Sage Sungail, Kristaps Miklelsons and Cotton Fields posted a time of 6:29:00 in the 800 freestyle relay.

As a team, the Mustangs sit tied for fifth place with Missouri, each having 117 points.

In the 50 freestyle, senior Lance Butler clocked in at 20.21 and was just 0.3 seconds short of his personal best.

As for the platform end of the pool and in diving action, John Dymond finished sixth on 3 meter with a score of 288.85.
