DALLAS (SMU)– Jasmine Smith and Savannah Wilkinson were named to the College Sports Communicators 2022-23 Academic All-District Women's Basketball team, the organization announced. 
 
Selected by College Sports Communicators, the team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 GPA, have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games, have completed one full calendar year at his current institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
 
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in March.  
 
Both athletes are pursuing their second Master's degrees in Business Administration. Smith graduated with a Master's degree in Management, and Wilkinson earned her Master's in Advertising. Smith received her undergraduate degree from Rice University and Wilkinson graduated from Florida State. 
 
On the court, Smith leads the Mustangs in scoring. The graduate student averages 13.1 points per game, and 3.8 rebounds. Smith has 72 assists and 42 steals on the year. Smith has two 20+ scoring outings, including a career-high 26 points against then-No. 25 USF on Feb. 4 and was named the Most Valuable Player at the Raising the B.A.R. Invitational, hosted by California in December. Smith collected Co-AAC Player of the Week honors for her performance in California, and was named to the weekly honor roll on Jan. 6. 
 
Wilkinson averages 11.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. She has tallied 35 assists and 23 blocks and steals this season. Wilkinson has played and started all 24 games, and leads the team in total minutes played. The graduate student has tallied five double-doubles this season. Wilkinson owns back-to-back 20+ point games, including a season high 23 points Feb. 15 at Tulane. Wilkinson was named to the All-AAC second team in 2021-22, and was a unanimous Preseason All-ACC Team selection. She has been selected to the Weekly Honor Roll twice this season.
 
The Mustangs are back in action Wednesday Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. in Moody.
