Mustangs Finish In Fifth At AAC Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (SMU) - SMU track & field finished in fifth at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championship at the Birmingham Crossplex. The Mustangs scored 59 points across the two days of competition with seven different Mustangs earning All-Conference honors.
 
Macey Hilton and Hedda Kronstrand Kvalvåg were named Co-Freshman Of the Year by the conference, the fifth time in the last six years that a Mustangs has taken home that honor.
 
Kvalvåg posted a personal best in the triple jump with a top distance of 12.66m. She finished in fourth place picking up five points for the Mustangs. Her distance was good for sixth all-time at SMU. Maykayla Jackson also posted a personal best with a distance of 12.13m to finish in 10th, another SMU career top-10.
 
Kaitlyn Gearin led the Mustangs in the 3000m. Gearin picked up five team points for the Mustangs with a fourth-place finish. The junior crossed the line in a time of 9:40.52. Alanis Robineau finished in eighth with a time of 9:50.22 to pick up a point for the team. Kendall Saeger posted a personal best with a time of 9:53.34 to finish in 10th. Finishing right behind Saeger, Maddie Hulcy crossed the line in a time of 9:53.88 in 11th. Lior Kremer posted a personal record with a time of 10:01.34
 
The SMU 4x400 team of Nea Sanders, Camryn McPhaul, Emily Waller and Whitney Williams finished in fifth with a time of 3:44.81, picking up four points for the team. Their time was good for seventh all-time at SMU.
 
In the mile, Leoni Mierswa finished in a time of 4:57.92 to record a sixth-place finish picking up three points for the Mustangs.
 
Two Mustangs made the final of the 800m. Hilton led the way with a time of 2:13.43 to finish in sixth. Mierswa crossed the line in 2:15.23, good for seventh place.
 
After a strong day one, Olivia Dobson threw for a distance of 13.45m in her second throw to finish in 11th in the shot put.
 
Next up, after the NCAA Indoor Championships, the Mustangs begin the outdoor season at the TCU Invitational on March 18.
