SMU Women’s Tennis Set For Doubleheader Against No. 28 Texas Tech and Richmond

DALLAS- No. 48 SMU women's tennis returns to the Styslinger/ Altec Tennis Complex this Sunday for a doubleheader against No. 28 Texas Tech at 11 a.m. followed by Richmond at 5 p.m.

The Mustangs enter the dual weekend as the No. 48 team in the country and fourth overall in the American Athletic Conference. SMU has a trio of top-100 ranked players in the ITA. Hadley Doyle has improved to No. 89 in the singles rankings. Taylor Johnson and Jackie Nylander improved eight spots as they are now ranked No. 24 in doubles rankings.

The Mustangs (6-4) are coming off a 4-0 loss on the road to No. 17 Kansas.

INSIDE THE MATCH 
The Mustangs are undefeated (5-0) at the Styslinger/ Altec Tennis Complex after their sweep over Kansas State on Feb. 24.

SMU has a 1-6 record against the Red Raiders with their only win dating back to their first matchup on January 31, 1999.

This will be the first matchup between SMU and Richmond.

MUSTANG MARK
No. 89- ranked Hadley Doyle was named the AAC Women's Player of the Week (Feb. 14) after defeating the nation's No. 56-ranked player in three sets. Doyle had a straight set victory against Kansas State to improve to a 21-7 overall record in the 2022-23 season.

In doubles, Doyle holds a 6-3 record with partner Lana Mavor. The duo won the first match against Kansas State with a 6-2 victory on Court 3. Throughout the 2022-23 season the duo has a 13-3 overall record.
 
Lana Mavor remains undefeated throughout the 2023 season going 8-0 in singles. Mavor has clinched the singles point in three of SMU's three victories (Incarnate Word, VCU and USF). Mavor picked up the second and final point for the Mustangs against No. 23 ASU in three sets victory on Court 6. Mavor picked up the Mustangs second point against No. 1 Texas with a straight set victory at No. 6. The senior has gone 21-4 in singles play in the 2022-23 season.
 
Drew Morris, the AAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week (Jan. 24), holds a 8-1 singles record throughout the spring season. Morris picked up the first singles win for the Mustangs against Kansas State with straight set victories on Court 4. Morris' only loss throughout the season came from the No. 109- ranked player. Morris led the Mustangs to wins over Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word in their home opener. Morris picked up the Mustangs first victory over No. 1 ranked Texas. Morris added two more wins to her belt over the ITA Kickoff Weekend over Wisconsin and VCU. Since fall 2022, Morris is 21-6 in singles action.
 
The No. 24 ranked doubles duo of Jackie Nylander and Taylor Johnson picked up their fifth win against USF with a 6-1 victory. The pair picked up the biggest win of their career together by defeating the nation's No. 7-ranked team of ASU in a dominate fashion. The SMU pair only gave up two games in a 6-2 victory. The duo is now 5-3 in doubles play on Court 1 throughout the spring season.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Texas Tech is coming off a 5-2 victory over UT Arlington Mar. 3 improving its overall record to 9-4. The Red Raiders have a doubles pairing of Metka Komac and Cristina Tiglea ranked No. 40 in the ITA doubles rankings.
 
Richmond is coming off their fourth win of the season with a 6-1 victory over Longwood. The Spiders are 2-6 on the road this season.
 
LAST TIME OUT
No. 48-ranked SMU fell 4-0 to No. 17 Kansas on Feb. 24 at the Jayhawk Tennis Complex. Kansas won the doubles point followed by three straight singles matches to clinch the win.

SMU is now 6-4 overall throughout the dual season.

The Mustangs will return back to the Styslinger/ Altec Tennis Complex to host a doubleheader against Tulane at 11 a.m. and UT Arlington at 5 p.m.
