PINEHURST, N.C. (SMU) –
Nathan Petronzio won the Wake Forest Invitational at Pinehurst No. 2 on Tuesday with a three-stroke victory over a strong 66-player field.
Petronzio came into the final day with a one stroke lead at four-under. The junior shot one-over on the final day birdieing his final hole to set him apart from second place Bryan Lee of Virginia. Petronzio eventually finished three strokes ahead of second place.
The title marked Petronzio's third career tournament win after titles at the 2022 AAC Championship and the 2022 Trinity Forest Invitational. His three career wins are tied for third most at SMU behind Colt Knost (7) and Kelly Kraft (4).
As a team, the Mustangs finished in 11
th after a 20-over final day. UNCG won the tournament with a 10-under final score.
J. Holland Humphries moved up 13 spots on the leaderboard on the final day. Humphries shot a 71 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 18th place, his best finish of the season.
Will Sides shot a 75 on the final day to finish in a tie for 53
rd.
Justin Thompson finished in a tie for 60
th while
Zachary Kingsland finished in a share of 63
rd.
Competing as an individual,
Holden Wisener finished in the top half of the field with two rounds of 72. The junior finished in a share of 30th place.
