Mustangs Host Texas At White Rock Lake

SMU rowing hosts the defending national champions, Texas, to open its 2023 season on Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11 at White Rock Lake.
Racing is scheduled to begin after 4:00 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, senior day is slated for 9 a.m. with racing to commence afterwards.
SMU is coming off a season where the Mustangs won their second-straight AAC Championship. The Mustangs won all four races at the 2022 AACs for the second straight year. They captured the title with a healthy 22-point lead over second-place UCF. SMU coaching staff was named American Athletic Conference Staff of the Year by the conference.
Peyton Matthews, Juliet Traylor, Jasmine Brake, Madison van Meel and Victoria Franklin were all named first-team All-AAC by the conference. The second varsity eight boat was named boat of the year by the AAC head coaches after winning their race at the AACs in a time of 6:41.584, almost 13 seconds ahead of second-place UCF. It marked the third straight AAC Boat of the Year honor for the Mustangs.
After earning an automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Championships, the Mustangs would go on to place 12th at the Championships. Second varsity eight finished in 10th place while first varsity eight finished in 11th. Varsity four won the "C" final which placed them in 13th overall. The Mustangs tallied 72 points, the most ever by an American Athletic Conference team at the NCAA Championships.
