All Three Mustang Boats Advance At NCAA Championship

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (SMU) – SMU rowing advanced all three boats to the A/B semifinals on day one of the NCAA Championship.

The Mustangs began the day with First Varsity Eight competing against the likes of Penn, Yale, Indiana, George Washington and Navy. The Mustangs crossed the line in 6:38.610, 10.156 seconds behind the winner Penn. SMU finished in third place nearly nine seconds ahead of fourth, good for a spot in the semifinals on Saturday.


In the second varsity eight heat two, the Mustangs again recorded a third-place finish. They completed the race in 6:51.644, 8.750 behind first place Princeton. The Mustang again earned a semifinal spot given to the top three boats. They finished 8.5 seconds ahead of fourth-place Rutgers.

In the final SMU race of the day, the Mustang finished in 7:42.189 in the varsity four. SMU finished behind Yale and Washington and recorded a third-place showing. The Mustangs move on to the semifinals with its performance. SMU finished 3.3 second ahead of fourth-place Penn.

The Mustangs return to the water on Saturday for three semifinal races. The action begins at 8 a.m. CT / 9 a.m. ET with the first varsity eight.
