PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – SMU rowing made history with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Rowing Championship, the best finish in program history.

The Mustangs made the petite final in all three boats for the first time in program history. SMU would compete for a placement of seventh through 12th in Sunday's final races.

SMU started the day competing in varsity four. They crossed the line in 7:26.285, good for fourth place in the race and a 10th place finish overall. The Mustangs finished 2.7 seconds ahead of fifth place Duke and 3.2 ahead of Ohio State. SMU bested its previous best finish in the varsity four, a 13th place finish last season.

In the second varsity eight, the Mustangs put together a fifth-place finish, an 11th place finish nationally. They finished 3.8 seconds ahead of sixth-place finisher, Michigan.

In the first varsity eight, the Mustangs had their strongest finish of the day, and a program record setting performance. The Mustang squad won the petite final with a 1.7 winning margin over second-place Syracuse. The finish gave the Mustangs a seventh-place national finish in the first varsity eight, their best performance in program history.

The Mustangs finished the Championship with 85 points, the most ever for SMU and highest finish by an American Athletic Conference program. Stanford won the national title with 129 points.

SMU completed the record-breaking season with a third-straight conference title. The Kim Cupini led Mustangs added to their season accolades with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championship, setting a new standard for SMU rowing.
