DALLAS (SMU) - SMU rowing finished the year ranked No. 9 in the Pocock CRCA Coaches Poll, setting a new mark for highest ranking in program history.
After a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championship, the Mustangs gained four spots in the year-end poll over their previous ranking of No. 13. SMU was ranked as high as No. 12 during the regular season.
SMU is fresh off a program best finish at the NCAA Championship. The Mustangs placed in ninth place at the NCAAs, two spots higher than their previous best finish of 11th in 2021.
At the NCAA Championships, all three Mustang boats made the Petite Finals (7th-12th) for the first time in program history. In first varsity eight, the Mustangs won the Petite Final by a 1.7 second margin. The placement gave the Mustangs a seventh-place national finish in varsity eight, a new program best. In varsity four, the Mustangs finished in fourth, giving them a 10th place national finish. In second varsity eight, the Mustangs put together a fifth-place finish to rank 11th nationally.
At the NCAAs, SMU finished with 85 points, just seven points shy of a spot in the top six. The Mustangs added a record-breaking NCAA finish to a season that saw the Mustangs bring home another AAC title. The Mustangs swept all three races for the third straight year to pace the conference. SMU rowing looks to build on its stand-out season as they enter the 2023 offseason.
