Szeryk Sits In Sixth After Day One Of Dick McGuire

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (SMU) – Ellie Szeryk sits in a tie for sixth place as she leads the Mustangs after two rounds of action at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. As a team, the Mustangs hold a share of 10th place heading into the final round.
 
The Mustangs position fluctuated throughout the 36 hole day one. SMU sat as high as fifth in the morning before falling to 10th at the end of round one. After the break, the Mustangs held at the 10th spot, going as high as eighth before settling into a tie for 10th at 14-over par. The Mustangs sit eight shots back of a spot in the top five. Pepperdine leads the field at 14-under par.
 
Szeryk highlighted the Mustang day with a three-under first round. She carded six birdies in her first 18. After maintaining a spot near the top of the leaderboard, Szeryk pulled off three consecutive birdies to close out holes No. 16-18 midway through her round.  She sits in a tie for sixth place, four shots back of the leader McKenzi Hall of UNLV.
 
Tess Davenport shot a 78 in her first round as a Mustang before eagling her first hole of round two. Davenport moved up the leaderboard in the back half of the day, ending in a tie for 50th. She gained 19 spots on the leaderboard in round two.
 
Mackenzie Lee carded a 73 in round one before shooting even par in round two. Lee sits in a share of 20th place looking for her 10th career top 20 finish.
 
Ashley Chow carded an opening round 78 followed by a 76 in round two and holds a share of 71st. In her first appearance as a Mustang, June Song shot a 79 followed by a 77 to sit at a tie for 82nd place at 12 over par.
 
Competing as an individual, Nicole Vivier heads into Tuesday in 90th place.
 
 
The Mustangs return to the course at 7:30 a.m. MT / 8:30 a.m. CT for the final 18 holes of the Dick McGuire Invitational on Tuesday.
