// MUSTANGS LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK AGAINST WESTERN MICHIGAN
The SMU women's basketball program continues its inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) by taking on Western Michigan inside Moody Coliseum on Tuesday at 11 a.m. CT. Fans can watch the game on ACCNX or listen on the radio through the SMU Mobile App.
Tuesday's game will conclude a three game homestand for the Mustangs. SMU defeated N.C. A&T in its season opener before falling to Old Dominion last time.
The game theme for Tuesday is Education Day, local area K-12 school that registered will be in attendance for the game. Â There will be educational elements throughout the game.
Heading into last weekend's action, the ACC held a 24-2 record and its .923 winning percentage was the second highest mark among all conferences.
SMU is in its fourth season under head coach Toyelle Wilson. The Mustangs are 46-45 under Wilson and have made the WNIT twice during her tenure. Â She holds a career record of 101-68 in seven seasons of head coaching.
Saturday's game will be the second overall meeting between SMU and WMU and will be the first time the two teams have met since 2007. Last time the two faced each other SMU won 86-61 in Moody Coliseum. That win was the second of an eight-game winning streak that helped the Mustangs reach a record of 24-9 and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Â
// HOME SWEET HOME
The Mustangs are 24-10 at home over the last three seasons after defeating N.C. A&T in the season opener. The Mustangs have won four of their last five non-conference games dating back to last season. Â SMU is 23-15 in non-conference games under Wilson. Â
// SECOND CHANCE OPPORTUNITIES
The Mustangs collected 22 offensive rebounds against ODU marking the second consecutive game recording 20 or more. Last season SMU had only two games with 20 or more offensive rebounds.
SMU currently ranks first in the ACC in offensive boards per game with 21.0.
// A WALKING BUCKET
Nya Robertson has had a strong start to the season as she currently averages 25 ppg through the first two games. Her scoring average ranks second in the ACC and 10th in the NCAA as she joins FSU's Ta'Niya Latson as the only ACC players to score 50 points in their team's first two games.
Last time out she scored a season-high 29 points marking her 10th straight game scoring in double figures dating back to last season. She has now scored over 20 points 21 times in her career and has reached double figures in 44 games.
If she reaches 20 points against Western Michigan, she will become the first Mustang to score 20 or more points in three straight games since McKenzie Adams did in 2017.
Her 29 points were also the most points by a Mustang inside Moody Coliseum since Kayla White scored 34 against East Carolina on Jan. 13, 2022.
She currently ranks inside the top five in the ACC in seven statistical categories including three-point attempts (20, ACC-3, NCAA-16), total points (50, ACC-4, NCAA-26) and field goal attempts (37, ACC-3, NCAA-49).
// HARD EARNED POINTS
Chantae Embry had a career day at the foul line against ODU as she made 10 of her 11 foul shots, both were career highs. This season she is 11-of-12 from the line and ranks fifth in the ACC with a percentage of 91.1.
Her 10 free throws were the most made by a Mustang since Tiara Young went 18-22 from the stripe against Memphis last season on Jan. 1, 2024.
Against Old Dominion she ended the game with a season-high 18 points and eight rebounds. She currently ranks second on the team in both points and rebounds (14.5 ppg / 8.5).
