Final Game BookÂ
TEMPE, Ariz. (SMU) â In a natural site showdown, the SMU women's basketball program fell 65-56 to Minnesota on Sunday inside the Desert Financial Arena in the team's final game of the Briann January Classic.
Playing their second game in two days, the Mustangs found themselves in a defensive battle as they held the Golden Gophers to just 31% shooting from the floor. SMU was down only two with five minutes left in the game before Minnesota closed the game out on an 11-to-4 run and forced three turnovers during the stretch.
Guard
Nya Robertson showcased her scoring ability all weekend long as she led all scorers with 28 points, going 10-24 from the field and knocking down four three-pointers. On Saturday, she scored 25 points against Arizona State and tallied a combined 53 points over the weekend.
Robertson erupted in the third quarter, scoring 16 of her 28 points. She went 7-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-3 from behind the arc and put SMU up two at the end of the third.
Forward
Chantae Embry had an efficient night on the low block as she converted seven of her 10 field goals and collected three rebounds.
Leading the team in rebounds was guard
TK Pitts, who hauled in a season-high of nine. Forward
Jessica Peterson finished her night with seven points and seven rebounds. Only three Mustangs scored over five points.
SMU shot over 40% from the floor for the third time this season, finishing at 41% from the floor, but turned the ball over 18 times compared to Minnesota's seven.
