// MUSTANGS HOST OLD DOMINION ON SATURDAY
The SMU women's basketball program continues its inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) by hosting Old Dominion inside Moody Coliseum on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the game on ACCNX or listen on the radio through the SMU Mobile App.
The game is the second of the three game homestand for the Mustangs. SMU defeated N.C. A&T in its season opener. Head coach Toyelle Wilson improved to 4-0 in season openers during her tenure with the Mustangs. SMU hosts Western Michigan on Tuesday, Nov. 12 to conclude the homestand.
The ACC went 17-1 in its members' season opening games. SMU grabbed the third most offensive rebounds by any ACC team in its season opener (20) and had the seventh best assist to turnover ratio (1.6). The team grabbing 20 offensive rebounds was a feat the team only achieved twice last season.
Saturday's game theme is Salute to Service. USO Dallas is hosting a food item drive and fans can receive free admission by bringing in nonperishable food items. There will also be a Military Appreciation Card Station at the marketing table.Â
SMU begins its fourth season under head coach Toyelle Wilson. The Mustangs are 46-44 under Wilson and have made the WNIT twice during her tenure. Wilson earned her 100th career victory as a head coach in the team's final regular season game against Wichita State last season. She holds a career record of 101-67 seven seasons of head coaching.
Saturday's game will be the second overall meeting between SMU and the first time in 24 years. It will be the first ever meeting between the two schools in Dallas as the last time the two teams played each other was during the 2000 NCAA Tournament when ODU defeated SMU 96-76 in the second round of the Midwest Regional.
// HOME SWEET HOME
The Mustangs are 24-9 at home over the last three seasons after defeating N.C. A&T in the season opener. The Mustangs are on a four-game non-conference winning streak dating back to last season. SMU closed out its non-conference slate last year with wins over Louisiana Tech (69-53), Sam Houston State (69-64) and Air Force (75-44).
// NEWCOMERS SHINE IN SEASON OPENER
Five Mustangs made their Mustang debuts against N.C. A&T as Nya Robertson and Zanai Jones earned their first starts as Mustangs. The newcomers accounted for 42 of SMU's 77 total points in the season opener.
Robertson led SMU in points with 21, going 7-18 from the floor, including two three-pointers and went 5-of-6 from the line. Her 21 points are the most points in a season opener since former Mustang McKenzie Adams scored 38 in the team's 2017 season opener.
Robertson was one of nine ACC players to score 21 or more points in their team's season opener. The game marked her ninth game in a row dating back to last season scoring in double figures and it marked her 43rd career game scoring in double figures. It was also her 20th career 20-point game.
// A PREFECT PASSER
Zanai Jones's incredible passing ability was on full display against N.C. A&T as she recorded a career-high seven assists and did not turn over the ball once. It was the first time since 2011 a Mustangs had seven or more assists without committing a turnover. (Alisha Filmore, 8 Ast- 0 To, vs Houston 1/1/2011). Jones is currently tied for 19th in the country with her seven assists.
Jones also added 10 points and five rebounds to her stat line. It marked her 10th career double-digit scoring game. Â
// SEEING DOUBLE
Jessica Peterson recorded her first career and the Mustangs first double-double of the season against N.C. A&T. She finished the game with 16 points and 11 rebounds and joins Chantae Embry and Kaysia Woods as the only Mustangs on the roster to have recorded a double-double in their careers.

// RETURNING PRODUCTION
SMU returned five players from its roster last season, including Chantae Embry and TK Pitts. Embry is the only starter to return from last season, while Pitts played impactful minutes coming off the bench.
The Mustangs returned 25.5 % (535 of 2,095) of their points, 29.0% (320 of 1,103) of their rebounds and 19.9 % (88 of 441) of their assists from last season. Â
After playing in only five combined games due to season-ending injuries, both Ella Brow and Jessica Peterson are set to return to the hardwood in the season opener. Brow led the Mustangs in assists four times during the 2022-23 season and was named to the AAC All-Freshman team during her first year on the Hilltop. Peterson led SMU in rebounding three times during the 2022-23 season and scored in double figures five times.
// VIA THE TRANSFER PORTAL
SMU hit the portal hard this offseason, adding seven transfers to the 2024-25 roster. The group brings a lot of experience to the team, as they made 161 appearances in games last season and have totaled 172 career starts.
