DALLAS (SMU) – Heading into his sixth season at the helm of the Mustangs women's tennis program, head coach
Jeff Nevolo has announced the 2025 spring schedule. In addition to competing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend, the Mustangs will host 12 matches from the
Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex. The slate features at least eleven tilts against squads that appeared in the 2024 DI Women's Tennis Championships.
The spring slate opens at home against Abilene Christian on Jan. 11. From there, the Mustangs will make the trip to Nashvile, Tennessee, for a tilt on Jan. 19, a non-conference matchup with Vanderbilt. SMU will then take part in the ITA Kickoff Weekend in the Stillwater, Oklahoma draw, battling Arkansas on Jan. 25 before taking on either Clemson or host Oklahoma State. SMU will close out the month of January with a home doubleheader against Lamar and UT-Arlington on Jan. 30.
The Mustangs welcome NC State to the
Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Feb. 2. The match will count as a non-conference matchup for Coach Nevolo and SMU.
From Feb. 6-10, the Mustangs will take on the ITA National Indoor Championships, co-hosted by Illinois and Northwestern.
On Friday, Feb.7, SMU will host Houston and then a week later, the Mustangs will travel to Houston for a matchup with Rice (Feb. 14).
Following their matchup with Rice, SMU will be at home for nearly a month, starting on Feb. 21 versus Notre Dame to start conference action, followed by a doubleheader with Louisville and Incarnate Word on Feb. 23, and then Virginia (Feb. 28), Virginia Tech (March 2), and then ending the home stretch on March 9 with a matchup against Tulsa. SMU then heads back out on the road with its first ACC trip of the year slated for March 14 and 16, with matches against the other two conference newcomers Stanford and Cal, respectively.
Illinois will then return home for two matches as Florida State (March 21) and Miami (March 23) head to Dallas.
From there, the Mustangs will spend three of the final four weekends of the regular season action on the road. SMU makes the North Carolina swing next, visiting the North Carolina Tar Heels on March 28 followed by the Duke Blue Devils on March 30.
April opens with a non-conference doubleheader at home as they host Wichita State (April 6) and Tarleton State (April 6). Nevolo's squad will end the regular season at Clemson and Georgia Tech on April 11 and April 13, respectfully.
The ACC Championship action will take place in Cary, North Carolina, from April 15-20. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show is slated for April 27, with competition at regional host sites taking place from May 2-4.
According to the latest ITA Team rankings (2024 final), the Mustangs are slated for at least 14 matches against ranked squads. Those tilts include No. 4 Stanford, No. 7 North Carolina, No. 8 Virginia, No. 10 Cal, No. 16 NC State, No. 18 Miami, No. 22 Florida State, No. 23 Duke, No. 24 Vanderbilt, No. 25 Georgia Tech, No. 32 Notre Dame, No. 42 Arkansas, No. 56 Clemson, and No. 59 Rice.
