Mustangs End the Regular Indoor Season with nine SMU Top-10 Performances

The Mustangs saw much success in their final weekend of the regular indoor season with nine SMU Top-10 Performances, 11 personal bests and eight season bests with the majority of the athletes contributing to those totals. Not only did the Mustangs improve on their own records this weekend, but they moved up on the conference's top 10 lists. 

"The entire team showed up this weekend in season bests, personal bests and top-10 marks," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "It is the right way to end the regular season and head into the indoor conference championship." 

In Boston, Macey Hilton ran her fastest time this season in the 800 – 2:09.90 -- and she was followed closely by Leoni Mierswa with a time of 2:10.51, which moved her to the seventh fastest time run by a Mustang. Mackenzie Montandon also ran a season's best time of 2:19.92. 

Mierswa not only made her mark in SMU history in the 800 but also in the mile running the fourth fastest time by an SMU athlete with a time of 4:47.73. Macey Hilton also PRed in the race with a time of 4:51.59 -- eighth place on the SMU Top-10 list. Two other season bests were produced in the race by Flora Tissier and Jessie Crowley

Faustine Chaboche also had a personal best in Boston running a time of 9:35.38 in the 3,000, which puts her fifth in the conference and tenth in the books for SMU. 

The personal best times continued in New Mexico with the sprinters and jumpers. In the 200, both Ariana Sutton and Nea Sanders ran the best times of their careers with 24.46 and 24.53. Hali Murphy ran the fourth fastest time by a Mustang in the 400 with 54.65. 

Funminiyi Olajide and Raelyn Roberson had season bests in both the 60 and the long jump. In the 60, Olajide placed eighth with 7.70 and Roberson ran 7.77. Olajide jumped 6.37 meters for fifth and Roberson jumped 5.84 meters for 26th. 

In the 60-meter hurdles, three SMU Top-10 times were produced. Sanders moved into second all-time with her time of 8.66, followed by Gabriella Ayiteyfio running 8.69 for third all-time, and Kirin Chaccia running 8.72 for fifth all-time. 

The weekend ended with the 4x400 relay made up of Sanders, Whitney Williams, Sutton, and Murphy running the second fastest time in SMU history – 3:40.72. This currently places them third in the conference. 

The Mustangs will be back in action for the 2024 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on February 23rd and 24th in Birmingham, Alabama.
