DALLAS (SMU) — SMU women's tennis defeated LSU in a dominant 4-1 victory at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Sunday.
The Mustangs are coming off of a 4-0 sweep over American Athletic Conference foe Wichita State on Friday — making this SMU's second win of the weekend.
"This week was a great week for us," head coach Jeff Nevolo said. "This team has faced every challenge this season head on and it was great to see us compete better in each match we played this week."
The doubles point went to the Mustangs, with No. 57 Taylor Johnson and Lana Mavor taking down LSU's Kenna Erickson and Anita Sahdiieva, 6-4.
Freshman Caroline McGinley and Maja Makoric paired to secure the first point of the match, defeating Florentine Dekkers and Gaby Garcia — 6-4.
In singles play, Johnson swept Dekkers in two sets (6-2, 6-0). Teammate Drew Morris, currently ranked No. 109 by the ITA, earned another point for SMU in her win over Garcia — 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Clinching the match for SMU was McGinley on court six. She faced off against Erickson, earning the win in three sets (6-2, 5-7, 6-4)
"Caroline and Drew played clutch tennis late in their third sets and I'm incredibly proud of their efforts and ability to get us across the finish line almost simultaneously," Nevolo said.
