BOSTON, Mass. (SMU) -- Funminiyi Olajide placed 10th in the Long Jump at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships to complete an outstanding 2024 indoor season – the highest placement at the NCAAs for a Mustang since 2011.
This was Olajide's first appearance on the national stage and her second jump of 6.32 meters put her in the top ten with the best – narrowly missing finals. Her performances this season have put her on top of the SMU performance list.
"I am immensely proud of the season Funminiyi put together," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "Her last six weeks have been her best yet."
Olajide said while she knows she has more to give, it was a great day to see her potential. She and the coaches know she has much more to come.
"Coach Brobst and Funminiyi have a great relationship and once the process continues to be executed, there are bigger performances to come," Haynes said.
Coach Austin Brobst said Olajide came into this weekend with high expectations.
"While she might now have achieved what she wanted, I'm still incredibly proud of the season she put together," Brobst said. "She finished her indoor campaign with the best SMU performance at the NCAA championships since 2011. I'm excited to see what she is able to accomplish this outdoor season."
The outdoor season will start next weekend at the TCU Alumni Invitational on March 16th.
