DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's tennis team earned a 4-0 sweep over 27th-ranked Memphis and 6-1 victory against UT Dallas at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Sunday.
"We had two great matches today," said Head Coach
Grant Chen. "To beat a very good and high-ranked Memphis team was special for our program. Memphis is a great team and our guys competed very well."
SMU improves to 16-7 with Sunday's two wins, including an impressive 13-1 home record. Memphis, who marks SMU's ninth ranked opponent of the season, falls to 15-5 on the year.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by taking the team doubles point against the Tigers.
Trevor Svajda and
Louis Cloud earned SMU's first win in doubles play, beating Conor Gannon and Harry Rock, 6-2. The 52nd-ranked duo of
Adam Neff and
Huntley Allen then clinched the team point with a 7-6(2) tiebreaker win over Memphis's 35th-ranked Pablo Alemany and Charlie Barry.
Svajda later picked up SMU's first singles victory of the afternoon, defeating the 68th-ranked Alemany in straight sets (6-0, 6-2).
Jerry Barton also earned a singles win in straight sets. The sophomore defeated Sam Reeve (6-2, 6-2) to put SMU up 3-0.
Neff clinched the 4-0 sweep over Memphis with his 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Conor Gannon. The Mustangs have now shutout nine opponents this season.
SMU honored seven seniors –
Huntley Allen,
Callaway Clark,
Liam Krall,
Adam Neff,
Kyle Sillman,
Julian Steinhausen and
John Zisette – during their evening match against UT Dallas.
"Senior Night is always special," said Chen. "To be able to honor and celebrate our seven graduating seniors was something great to remember. These guys have contributed for a combined 29 years to SMU, and they are a huge reason as to why we are where we are now in winning conference titles and continuing to develop the program."
The Mustangs also took the doubles point versus the Comets. Allen and
Julian Steinhausen defeated Benjamin Dubois and Andres Gonzalez (6-0) on court one. Neff and
John Zisette clinched the team point for the Mustangs in their 6-1 win over Noah Sam and Snehin Yerragudi. Then, to cap off the day's doubles play,

Kyle Sillman earned a 6-2 victory against Nathan Qi and Nick Boquet.
Sillman followed by earning SMU's first singles win of the night versus UT Dallas's Yerragudi in straight sets (6-1, 6-1).
