Mustangs are prepared and ready to take on the 2024 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship this weekend. The meet will begin on Friday, May 10th with finals being on Sunday, May 12th.
"We are looking forward to some exciting individual performances from our seniors Dobson, Gearin, Montandon, Olajide and Williams," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "As always, the focus is on the preliminary rounds and making it to the finals on Sunday."
Kaitlyn Gearin has run the fifth fastest time in the conference in the 5,000 so far this season.
"Going into this weekend, I'm feeling fit and ready to compete," Gearin said. "I hope to place in both the 10k and the 5k and just give my all at the end of both races. I'm excited for the team, as this meet will be a good opportunity for many of us to pick up regional-qualifying marks!"
Whitney Williams said she is excited headed into her final conference meet as a Mustang. She is currently ranked 10th in the AAC in the 400.
"This is the most confident I've felt going into a conference meet, so I'm excited to go out and make my last one the best one," Williams said.
Macey Hilton has run the third fastest time in the AAC in the 1,500 and will seek a medal this weekend.
"I'm excited for our last conference meet in the AAC together and to have fun while enjoying the process," Hilton said. "I am looking forward to watching everyone this weekend since a lot of hard work has been put in over the last year."
Nea Sanders is looking to tackle the hurdles this weekend and is currently ranked fifth in the conference for the 100-meter hurdles.
"I think my goals for this weekend are to just stay confident in my abilities and try to score," Sanders said. "I want to be a good teammate by cheering on and uplifting everyone and to just trust myself and my training."
