Nic Fink Claims Silver In 100 Breast At Paris Olympics

Jul 31

PARIS (SMU) – Dallas native and SMU trainee Nic Fink won silver during the 2024 Summer Olympics in the 100 breast on Monday at París La Défense Arena.

Fink, a 31-year-old electrical engineer in Dallas, trains at SMU's Robson & Lindley Facility and is the husband of women's swim assistant coach Melanie Margalis Fink, who claimed a gold medal on a relay squad at the 2016 games.

The 100 breast was a highly contested final on Monday, with Fink touching the wall in 59.05 to tie with Adam Peaty (Great Britian) for second. The two were just .02 seconds off first place, with Italy's Nicolo Martinenghi finishing with a mark of 59.03.

Paris marks Fink's second consecutive appearance at the Olympics after competing in the 200 breast at the 2020 Games, placing fifth with a time of 2:07.93. In his swimming career, he has claimed 13 total medals and six golds at the World Championships, including a world championship in the 100 breast along with two relay events at the 2024 event in Doha.

Per SwimSwam, Fink is the oldest American to claim a medal in Olympic swimming since 1904, and he is the oldest member of this year's U.S. Olympic Swim Team.
