Nyah Rose Named to Hermann Trophy Watch List

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (SMU)— Sophomore Nyah Rose was named to the 2024 Hermann Trophy Watch List the United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday.

The Hermann Trophy is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club and is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by voting of Division I head coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.

Rose was among 44 players named to the watch list and one of only three sophomores to receive the honor. She is the first Mustang to make the watch list since current assistant coach Courtney Sebazco in 2022.

The complete Hermann Trophy Watch List can be found here.

The Markham, Ontario native earned All-AAC First Team, Co-Rookie of the Year, All-Rookie Team and AAC All-Tournament Team honors in her first season on the Hilltop. She also collected AAC Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 18) and AAC Freshman of the Week (Sept. 11) honors as well.

Rose ranked second in the AAC in total goals (11) and first in goals-per-game (.61).  She also had three multi-goal games during the season and recorded the first hat trick by a Mustang since 2019 in SMU's 3-1 victory over SFA.  Her goal total is also the sixth-most by a freshman in a season in program history.

Rose was only one of two Mustangs to start every game last season as she totaled 1,236 minutes played, two assists, and 24 points in addition to her team-high 11 goals.

SMU begins its 2024 season by hosting Northwestern State on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT inside Washburne Stadium. More information about the match can be found here.
