CARY, N.C. (SMU) — No. 25 SMU Men's Soccer defeated No. 4 Virginia 1-0 to win its first ACC Championship title at First Horizon Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., on Sunday.

Stephan Soghomonian scored the championship goal in 57
th minute from the penalty spot.
Slade Starnes was named tournament MVP following a stellar display through the Mustangs' championship run.
SMU Men's Soccer became the first program to win an ACC title after the Mustangs moved to the ACC prior to the 2024-25 season.
How It Happened
In a cagey start that saw changes in possession between two teams, SMU and Virginia only recorded five shots through the first 45 minutes of the match.
SMU's biggest chance in the first half came from
Stephan Soghomonian.
Ryan Clanton-Pimentel swung a cross from the right wing, which found Soghomonian inside the six-yard box, but the forward's shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
Soghomonian's attempt was the only shot on goal in the first period as the first half ended scoreless.
The Mustangs were on the front foot as soon as the second half started. They saw chances from
Mukisa Emmanuel and
Jaylinn Mitchell but it was in the 57th minute when the Mustangs grabbed their biggest chance by winning a penalty kick.
Soghomonian was brought down inside the penalty box and stepped up to take the penalty to take the lead for the Mustangs.
A solid defensive showing by SMU held the one-goal lead through the 90-minute whistle, and the Mustangs claim the ACC crown.
