DALLAS (SMU) – [-/RV] SMU men's swimming and diving is set to host its largest meet of the season on Wednesday-Saturday, Nov. 19-22, at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center.Â
The Mustangs are welcoming Drury, Hawai'i, Utah, Air Force, Stanford and Notre Dame (Diving). At last year's invite, SMU placed second, nabbing three new school records and 21 NCAA cuts (20 'B' cuts, 1 'A' cut).
LAST TIME OUT
At their most recent meet, the Mustangs took on TCU and [RV/-] Arizona, falling to Arizona and defeating the Horned Frogs 225.50-108.50. On the first day, Kristaps Mikelsons earned the victory in the 100 breast, throwing down a time of 54.05. In the 100 free, Benjamin Chateigner earned third place, touching the wall in 43.08. This time places him seventh on the SMU All-Time Top Performers list.Â
On the second day of competition, SMU claimed four event wins. Jack Forrest took home the 500 free win, posting a time of 4:22.95. Posting a time of 1:58.54, Joe Umhofer secured first place in the 200 breast. Winning the 400 IM for the Mustangs was Andy Baklanov, posting a time of 3:52.80. Baklanov also placed second in the 200 back, throwing down a time of 1:43.29. This performance beats his previous time of 1:43.81, now putting him eighth on SMU's All-Time Top Performers list. On 1-meter, Luke Sitz earned his third consecutive win, posting a mark of 361.00.
TOP OF THE CHARTS
Currently, the Mustangs have eight performances on this season's NCAA top-25 times list. In the 800 free relay, the squad consisting of Sungail/Chateigner/Forrest/Brennan currently holds 6th place in the nation and third in the ACC with a time of 6:25.10. Three Mustangs rank in the top 10 nationally in the 1650 free: Jack Forrest (15:24.48, 6th NCAA, 2nd ACC), Mark Van Eybergen (15:26.39, 8th NCAA, 3rd ACC), Leo Pelaez (15:29.25, 10th NCAA, 5th ACC).
The team of Chateigner/Sungail/Lockhart/Brennan threw down a time of 2:53.86 in the 400 free relay, earning them 24th nationally. In the 400 medley relay, Berube/Mikelsons/Sobenes/Chateigner touched the wall in 3:10.28, good for 18th in the nation. In the nation, Luke Sitz holds 11th place on 1-meter (389.10) and fourth place on 3-meter (408.25), both conference-leading performances.
