Sitz’s Bronze, 200 Free Relay School Record Highlight Day Two Of ACC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. (SMU) – For the second straight day, freshman Luke Sitz medaled for SMU Men's Swimming & Diving, this time on 1-meter, and the Mustangs' 200 free relay posted a school record during day two of the ACC Championships on Wednesday at Greensboro Aquatic Center.
 
Jack Forrest and Sitz each placed in the top seven of their respective individual events, along with the 200 free relay finishing eighth.
 
Following two days of competition, the Mustangs sit in 10th place with a point total of 211.

200 Free Relay
The Mustangs opened the evening session with a bang as the relay squad of Lance Butler, Sage Sungail, Harold Lockhart and Joe Rusnock threw down a school-record time of 1:16.74 to take eighth amidst another loaded field.
 
Butler led off the relay with a 19.50 split, just .03 seconds off from his personal best, to help the squad best a school record he helped set in 2022.
 
500 Free
In finals, Jack Forrest was just .07 seconds off his time during prelims, posting a time of 4:15.53, to place seventh in the event. Jack Hoagland placed 16th as part of the B final with a mark of 4:18.87.
 
Forrest became SMU's second-fastest performer in the event after earning a time of 4:15.46 and placing himself in the A final of the event during the morning prelims. Hoagland punched his ticket into the B final with a mark of 4:17.30.
 
Also competing in the event during the morning session was Mark Van Eybergen (4:24.82) and Laszlo Galicz (4:28.27).
 
1-meter Diving
During finals, Luke Sitz posted a score of 375.30 to take bronze, marking the second straight day the Freshman has medaled at his first conference meet.
 
Sitz earned his spot in the finals after an impressive performance during the prelims. The Prosper native recorded a score of 372.60 to enter the evening session with the third seed. John Dymond tallied a score of 221.90.
 
200 IM
Cotton Fields posted a time of 1:45.09 to lead SMU, but just missed the cut line for the evening finals. Jack Moore saw a mark of 1:45.95.
 
50 Free
During prelims, two Mustangs placed themselves on the SMU All-Time Top Performer's list and three posted NCAA 'B' standard times. Sage Sungail threw down the fifth-fastest SMU mark of 19.58 to lead the way, with Harold Lockhart right behind him with a time of 19.60, the sixth fastest in Mustang history. Also reaching the standard was Lance Butler, who touched the wall in 19.68.
 
Also competing in the morning session of the event were Joe Rusnock (20.19), Eric Stelmar (20.23), Chris Mykkanen (20.27) and Nico Sobenes (20.89).
 
Up Next
SMU is back for day three of the ACC Championships on Thursday at Greensboro Aquatics Center. Prelims action kicks off at 8:30 a.m. CT, featuring the 400 IM, 100 fly and 200 free. Later in the day at 4:30 p.m. CT, finals of the three events will commence.
