Mustangs Break Two School Records, Reach Three New NCAA Standards On Day Four Of ACC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. (SMU) – Two school records fell and the Mustangs reached three new NCAA standards as SMU Men's Swimming & Diving concluded day four of the ACC Championships on Friday at Greensboro Aquatic Center.
 
Jack Berube opened the day by breaking his own school record during prelims with a mark of 45.97 in the 100 back, which he would later top once again in the relay with a leadoff split of 45.74. In addition to Berube's leadoff split record, the Mustangs' 400 medley relay team broke the school record set earlier in the season, collecting a time of 3:05.89.

Entering the final day of competition, SMU sits in 11th with a team score of 323.

Notable Results
200 Fly
During prelims, Cotton Fields recorded a time of 1:45.08, while Nico Sobenes saw a mark of 1:46.33.
 
100 Back
In finals, Jack Berube touched the wall in 46.17 to take 16th.
 
Berube made a splash in prelims, swimming a time of 45.97 to set a new PR and break his own school record. Eric Stelmar narrowly missed a finals appearance after touching the wall in 46.98, while Russell Exum earned a time of 47.86 and Rob McCall recorded a 48.84.
 
100 Breast                         
Lance Butler and Kristaps Mikelsons raised their standards during finals, each swimming a personal best to improve their spot on the SMU All-Time Top Performers list and finish 1-2 in the C final. Butler recorded a time of 52.37, while Mikelsons was right behind him with a mark of 52.42.
 
The duo of Mustangs punched their tickets in the morning session, with Butler swimming a 52.95 and Mikelsons finishing in 53.02.  Joe Rusnock came up just .01 seconds short of a finals appearance, touching the wall in 53.13.

Platform Diving
In finals for the third time this week, Luke Sitz recorded a score of 306.35 on his final event of the championships to place seventh.
 
Sitz competed on Platform for the first time as a Mustang during the prelims session, recording an NCAA Zone Standard of 323.25 to narrowly advance to finals. John Dymond had a score of 203.60 to complete his time at the ACC Championships.
 
400 Medley Relay
The Mustangs' team of Jack Berube, Lance Butler, Russell Exum and Harold Lockhart ended the evening with a bang, taking down the school record with a time of 3:05.89. Berube led off the relay by breaking the 100 back school record for the third time this season and second time of the day with a leadoff split of 45.74.

The Mustangs conclude the 2025 ACC Championships tomorrow, with prelims beginning at 8:30 p.m. CT, and finals starting at 4:30 p.m. CT. Tomorrow's events feature the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 400 free relay.
