CORAL GABLES, Fla. (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis fell 4-2 in close battle at Miami on its ACC opener in the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Friday.
 
Miami took an early lead with the doubles point before extending the lead by winning the first singles point.
 
SMU bounced back with back-to-back singles wins to tie the match, but the Mustangs dropped matches on courts five and six and the hosts clinched the match.
 
Four singles matches went to three sets and one remained unfinished after seeing two tiebreakers.
 
How it Went
The hosts took the first lead, winning the first and third lines of doubles to take the doubles point.
 
Miami extended the lead as No. 48 Martin Katz defeated Georgi Georgiev in two sets.
 
Ofek Shimanov returned the favor and defeated Nacho Serra Sanchez (6-3, 6-4) to cut the deficit for the Mustangs to 2-1.
 
Jerry Barton followed Shimanov's lead to tie the match for the Mustangs with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Antonio Prat.
 
Noah McDonald and Xavier Calvelo fought hard in a three-set match but dropped two final points.
