FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (SMU) – Mustang freshman diver Luke Sitz earned a podium finish on 1-meter to pick up First Team All-America honors during Thursday's action at the NCAA Championships at Weyerhaeuser King Aquatic Center.

The freshman placed seventh during the finals of 1-meter with a score of 367.85. His best dive was his last, recording a 68.80 on a Forward 2 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Pike.

Sitz is the first Mustang diver to earn First Team All-America accolades since Phillip Griffin did so on 3-meter in 2006 and the first on 1-meter since Ali Al-Hasan in 1997. He also is the first freshman to podium in the event nationally since Texas' Nicholas Harris in 2023.

The Prosper native punched his ticket to finals by way of a 372.30 score in prelims to enter the Championship Final as the fifth seed. He closed out the early session with two stellar dives, a Forward 3 1/2 Somersault Tuck that scored 69.00 and a Forward 2 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Pike that scored 67.20, to solidify his spot in the primetime final.

Sitz was one of four ACC divers to advance to the Championship Final of the event, joining Jack Ryan of Stanford, Georgia Tech's Max Fowler and Max Flory from Miami.

In prelims of the 500 free, Jack Hoagland posted a season-best mark of 4:14.48 but missed the finals of the event after placing 21st in prelims.

During the last event of the day, the Mustangs 200 free relay squad of Lance Butler, Sage Sungail, Harold Lockhart and Jack Forrest touched the wall in 1:17.15 to place 22nd.

Butler led off the relay with a split of 19.49, with Sage Sungail following with a 19.07. Lockhart proceeded to record a third split of 18.71, and Forrest brought it home with a mark of 19.88.

The Mustangs are back in Federal Way tomorrow morning, with Hoagland competing in the 400 IM and Sitz seeing action on 3-meter. Swim prelims will begin at noon CT, with diving prelims starting at 2 p.m. CT. Finals of both events will commence at 8 p.m. CT.
