SMU Rowing takes on the Big Ten Invitational April 18-19 in Sarasota, Florida at Nathan Benderson Park Conservancy.
THE FIELD:
BIG TEN: Washington, Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana, USC, UCLA, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa
OTHER: Tennessee, Brown, Penn, Duke, Oregon State, Alabama, Notre Dame, Harvard/Radcliffe, Miami, SMU, Oklahoma, Clemson.
THE EVENT: Friday, April 18: Rounds 1 and 2, Saturday, April 19: Round 3
FRIDAY APRIL 18 ROUND ONE: (8:10 a.m. CT, 9:10 a.m. ET ) SMU races in the 2v4, 1v4, 2v8 and 1v8 in the Friday's morning sessions against UCLA, Tennessee, Ohio State, Oregon State and Michigan State. In the 3v8, SMU goes up against Indiana, Duke, Ohio State, Notre Dame and UCLA.
FRIDAY ARPIL 18 ROUND TWO: (2:25 p.m. CT / 3:25 p.m. ET ) They race in the evening Friday against Penn, Michigan, Tennessee and Rutgers in the main series and Minnesota, UCLA, USC, Miami and Wisconsin in the 3v8.
SATURDAY APRIL 19 ROUND THREE: (7:40 a.m. CT / 8:40 a.m. ET) On Saturday, SMU competes against Oklahoma, Michigan State, Iowa and Clemson in flight four. In the 3v8 SMU goes up against UCLA, Miami, Indiana, Notre Dame and USC.
Two weeks ago, SMU took on Ohio State in the Ohio State Regatta. They were set to take on Indiana in a Saturday session but it was cancelled due to adverse river conditions.
This season, SMU returns 16 student-athletes who competed at last season's NCAA Championship: Josephine Wilson, Sydney Stuelpe, Grace Knudson,Haley Schwenn, Lauren Bilafer, Ashlyn Wilshire, Annabelle New, Anna Fina, Claire Murphy, Sophia Dooley, Jaime Maybery, Ava Ha, Francesca La Marca, Ellie Lewis. Avery Bethel and Paige Horton. They four-peated as AAC Champions and received an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The squad finished in 21st nationally.
Last season, five Mustangs were named first team all-conference and three were named second team. Bilafer and Murphy return to the current squad among the honorees.
This season, freshman Roxy Welford was named to the ACC Preseason Watch List. The Watch List includes one student-athlete from each program, nominated by their respective schools.
