INDIANAPOLIS (SMU) - The NCAA released the latest round of Academic Progress Rates this week, and all of SMU's teams exceeded the NCAA's multi-year requirements, with five SMU programs - men's golf, men's tennis, cross country, women's swimming & diving and volleyball - scoring perfect multi-year 1,000s and earning Public Recognition from the NCAA.
In addition, 10 of SMU's 15 programs scored perfect 1,000s for the 2023-24 cohort (men's basketball, men's golf, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, women's soccer, cross country, track & field and volleyball).
The most recent APR scores are based on four-year calculations of data from the 2020-21 through 2023-24 academic years.
Each academic year, every Division I sports team calculates its APR using a simple and consistent formula. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. Every student-athlete's score is added up and divided by the maximum number of points attainable to determine a team total and APR.
