MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (SMU) – Incoming SMU freshmen divers RJ Snyder and Grant Cates competed at the 2025 USA Diving Junior National Championships from July 25 to August 3, both making it to the finals in at least one event.
Cates earned spots in the finals for three events. On platform, the Indiana native secured the silver with a final score of 543.35. Placing fourth overall, Cates earned a 468.05 on the 1-meter. The freshman finished sixth on the 3-meter, registering a 494.95.
Snyder competed in the finals on platform as well, finishing ninth with a score of 418.70. He made it to the semifinals for both the 1-meter and the 3-meter, placing 13th (398.95) and 15th (437.50), respectively.
The USA Diving Junior Championships feature the top junior athletes in the United States from ages 14-18.
