STILLWATER, Oklahoma (SMU) -- Freshman Rose Mburu led the Mustangs in today's race in Stillwater. Mburu finished sixth in a competitive field of nearly 200 athletes. She ran a time of 20:37.5.
"Rose Mburu had a big run today over her final 2k mixing it up with some of the most decorated women in the NCAA," Head Coach 'A Havahla Haynes said.
The team placed fifth overall with 19 teams competing -- scoring 134 points – and finishing ahead of regional opponents. Senior Macey Hilton ran a time of 21:12.6 to place 24th, and Correia Carolina followed ten seconds behind in 28th. Ruby Little placed 47th with a time of 21:52.5. Sophia Keditukei and Ellie Grammas crossed the finish line together in 51st and 52nd. Elizabeth Smits was just behind in 55th.
"The goal today was for the women to stay disciplined and committed as a group through 4K, and they did exactly that," Haynes said. "Our focus over the next month will be to tighten the spread between our 1-5 runners. Their ability to run together is integral to the team's long-term success. You can feel the momentum."
SMU will be back in action on October 17th for Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios meet.
