DAY ONE RESULTS
ATLANTA (SMU) – SMU freshman swimmer Francis Brennan posted a new school record in the 200 free for the third time in the 2025-26 season, leading off the Mustangs' 800 free relay at the 2026 NCAA DI Men's Swimming & Diving Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday.
The relay team of Brennan, Jack Forrest, Sage Sungail and Harold Lockhart swam the 800 free relay, touching the wall in 6:12.02. The performance placed the Mustangs 15th overall, scoring SMU four points and earning the squad Second-Team All-America honors. Brennan's 200 free leadoff of 1:32.11 became a new program best.
At the 2026 ACC Championships earlier this February, SMU's record for the 800 free relay was broken by Brennan, Forrest, Sungail and Lockhart after throwing down a time of 6:11.47. In the same event at last year's NCAA DI Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, the squad of Jack Hoagland, Lockhart, Forrest and Sungail posted a then-school record of 6:14.24 to finish 22nd overall.
Freshman Francis Brennan has already broken the record twice this season, first at the 2026 ACC Championships, and more recently, at SMU's Last Chance Meet, where he clocked 1:32.13. Brennan is the first SMU freshman to compete at the NCAAs since Robin Andreasson in 2009.Â
