RALIEGH, N.C. (SMU) – SMU rowing posted seven top half finishes on Friday at the Lake Wheeler Invitational.
 
In their final regular season meet before the conference championship, the Mustangs raced five times in both the morning session and the evening session.
 
SMU started the morning session with a third-place (7:00.180) finish in the 3v8s ahead of Oklahoma and West Virginia. In the fours, the Mustangs came in third in the 2v4 (7:27.040) ahead of Alabama, ACC opponent Clemson, West Virginia and Lehigh. In the 1v4, the Mustangs completed the race with a 7:28.500 time finishing in front of Clemson, West Virginia, Lehigh and Old Dominion.

For the 2v8 morning race, the Mustangs finished in 6:44.860  in third ahead of Lehigh, Old Dominion and West Virginia. In the final morning session race, SMU placed in fourth with a time of 6:33.490, ahead of Old Dominion  West Virginia and Lehigh.
 
SMU returned for the afternoon session again in heat two. In the 3v8s, SMU finished in fifth with a time of 7:17.080. In the 2v4, the Mustangs came in third with a time of 7:34.700 finishing in front of ACC opponents Louisville and Clemson along with Kansas and Navy. During the 1v4, SMU finished in second with a time of 7:26.280, better than Clemson, Louisville, Kansas and Navy.
 
In the 2v8s, the Mustangs placed in second behind Duke with a time of 6:39.460. They finished in front of Clemson, Louisville, Navy and Kansas. In the final SMU race of the day, the Mustangs placed third with a time of 6:29.680, just 3.19 behind first-place Duke. They crossed the line ahead of Louisville, Navy and Kansas.
 
SMU returns to the water on Saturday for the final day of the Lake Wheeler Invite at 8 a.m. CT.
