DALLAS (SMU) — No. 5 SMU Men's Soccer dominated HCU 6-0 at Washburne Stadium on Monday.
In a parade of goals, four Mustangs got on the scoresheet with
Mukisa Emmanuel and
Landon Hickam each scoring a brace.
Franco Ocana scored his first goal for SMU, while
Alex Salvo scored his second for the Mustangs
A complete performance for SMU, who outshot the Huskies 41 to five and controlled 61% of the ball.
The last time SMU scored six or more goals in a single match was in their 6-4 win over FIU in 2022.
SMU starts the season with a 4-0-0 record, having scored 15 goals while only allowing one.
How It Went
SMU had a dominant start, creating chances right after kick-off.
Enzo Panozzo recorded the first shot on goal of the match, but his ripper from the top of the box was shoved by HCU's Harvey Heeps.
The Mustangs found a breakthrough in the 11
th minute through
Landon Hickam's first goal of the season.
Ryan Clanton-Pimentel beat his man to drive into the penalty box through the right wing and found Hickam, who did a one-touch turn shot to slot the ball into the net.
The Mustangs recorded nine more shots before they found their second goal in the 32
nd minute with
Franco Ocana's first goal for SMU.
Nick Harshaw's header of
Jaylinn Mitchell's cross from the left wing was saved, but Ocana was there to tap the rebound into the net.
The first half ended with the Mustangs' 2-0 lead.
SMU did not wait to add more to the scoreboard.
Alex Salvo scored his long-awaited second goal for SMU in the 49
th minute.
The defensive midfielder took a shot on the top of the box from Harshaw's pass to rattle the bottom left corner of the net and make it 3-0.
The Mustangs did not take their foot off the gas as it was
Mukisa Emmanuel's turn to get on the scoresheet in the 67
th minute.
Harshaw played a one-two through ball for Emmanuel, who was calm enough to slot the ball into the bottom left corner in a one-on-one with the keeper. The scoreline was 4-0 before the 70
th minute.
Emmanuel did not stop at one goal as he scored the Mustangs' fifth goal in the 69
th minute from Mitchell's grounded cross. It was his third brace for SMU.
SMU kept attacking, and Hickam managed to also earn his brace in the 81
st minute to make it 6-0.
Milton Lopez hit the post with his effort, but Hickam was there to pounce on the rebound to earn his first brace for SMU.
The match ended with a 6-0 scoreline for SMU.
