CORAL GABLES, Fla. (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team fell 2-1 on the road to Miami in the team's ACC opener.
It was a defensive game as both teams combined for 11 shots, but the Mustangs (5-2-2, 0-1-0 ACC) were unable to capitalize in the second half. Londynn Hagan scored her fourth goal of the season late in the second half to give SMU a chance, but it was not enough as Miami (6-1-1, 1-0-0 ACC) grabbed the win.
The Mustangs' seven-game unbeaten streak came to an end, the longest since 2022, in a physical game that saw three cards handed out as Miami led the foul differential 11-9.
Brooke Bunton led SMU in shots with two, Hagan scored the team's only goal, and Aubrey Brown finished the game with two saves.
After a scoreless first half, action picked up in the 57th minute as Kaylee Noble broke free and was fouled from behind just outside the box. On the ensuing free kick from 19 yards away, Bunton's shot went wide, and the game remained even.
With the momentum in favor of the Hurricanes, Miami scored the game's first goal in the 64th on a ball kicked into the attacking zone off a free kick.
SMU, not giving up, continued to fight and generated runs at night and had a cross go off the crossbar with 20 minutes left in the contest, but Miami extended its lead after a Hurricane was fouled inside the box and converted the following penalty kick.
Hagan answered for the Mustangs in the 84th minute sending a shot curling into the back of the net to give SMU a chance at evening this game in the final minutes. However, the Hurricanes stood tall and held on for the win.

The Mustangs continue ACC play by traveling to Raleigh, North Carolina, to face NC State on Thursday, Sept. 17. The game will kick off at 5 pm and air on ACCN.
