SMU will look to get back in the win column after its seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2) ended with a 2-1 loss at Miami last time out. SMU battled to the end against the Hurricanes as Londynn Hagan scored her fourth goal of the season. The Mustangs have outscored their opponents 24-8 this season and will look to hand NC State its first loss of the year.
Brooke Bunton leads SMU in goals with six after her three-goal performance against Idaho State, the first hat trick by a Mustang since 2023. She ranks tied for fifth in the ACC and 26th  in the NCAA in total goals scored. Bunton also leads SMU in points with 12 (12th in the ACC) and in shots with 28 (8th in the ACC).
Freshman Julianne Richter proved to be one of the best in the nation at generating offense as she is tied for second in the ACC and eighth in the NCAA in assists with six.
Richter was named ACC Freshman of the Week (9/8) after tallying two goals and two assists in two games that week. She scored the game-tying goal against (rv) Texas Tech in a 1-1 draw and recorded one goal and two assists against Idaho State. Â
Goalkeeper Aubrey Brown has led SMU to four solo shutouts and one combined shutout this season. Her four solo shutouts rank tied for second in the ACC and 12th in the NCAA. The team has recorded back-to-back home shutouts twice this year.
The Mustangs finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with a record of 5-1-2 and recorded five shutouts while outscoring their opponents 23-6.

The Mustangs added 17 newcomers to their 2026 roster, 10 freshmen and seven transfers. Head coach Nicole Nelson also brought in two new assistant coaches, Chassion Griggs and former SMU graduate assistant and men's soccer player Nick Petrucelli.
// FRESHMAN STANDOUTS
- Freshmen Julianne Richter and Londynn Hagan have been shining bright for the Mustangs.
- Richter was named ACC Freshman of the Week after stepping up big against Texas Tech, scoring the game-tying goal in the 74th. Against ISU, she recorded her second multi-assist game of the season and scored her second goal of the year as the Mustangs closed out non-conference play with a dominant home victory.
- Richter is tied for second in the ACC and eighth in the NCAA in total assists with six. She is second on the team in total points with 10.
- Hagan is second on the team in goals scored with four and has scored a goal in three of her last four games. She has also tallied one assist this season and is third on the team in points with nine.
- Thursday's match will be the eighth time SMU and NC State have played each other. NC State leads the series 5-2-0 and picked up the win over the Mustangs last season in Washburne (1-0). It will be the first time since 1994 that the teams will play each other in Raleigh.
- The Mustangs' seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2) came to an end last time out against Miami. It tied the team's longest unbeaten streak under Nelson (7 in 2022).
- SMU has outscored its opponents 24-8 this season. The +16 goal differential ranks seventh in the ACC and 22nd in the NCAA. Â 12 different Mustangs have scored a goal this season, and five have scored more than one.
- The Mustangs rank seventh in the ACC and tied for 16th in the NCAA in goals (24), fourth in the ACC and 14th in the NCAA in assists (24) and seventh in the ACC in total saves at 24.
- SMU has outscored its opponents 24-8 this season. The +16-goal differential ranks seventh in the ACC and 22nd in the NCAA.Â
- The Mustangs' 6-0 victory over Idaho State matched the team's highest goal total in a game under Nelson. It was the third time in her tenure as head coach that SMU has achieved the feat (6-0 vs Texas Southern 8/18/24, 6-3 at Rice 9/14/23).
- Five Mustangs have scored multiple goals this season, while Brooke Bunton leads the team with two multi-goal games.

- SMU received votes in the Week 1 IWSOC / United Soccer Coaches Poll. It was the first time the Mustangs had been ranked or received votes in the poll since 2022. (No. 24, Sept. 29, 2022).
- In the latest IWSOC / United Soccer Coaches Poll, the ACC had nine teams ranked or receiving votes. Duke led the way, ranked No. 2 in the nation, followed by Wake Forest (No.3), Stanford (No. 6), North Carolina (No. 7), Virginia (No. 13), Notre Dame (No.17), Florida State (No. 21), Virginia Tech and Clemson, which received votes. Â
- The Mustangs were picked to finish 14th overall in the ACC preseason poll. SMU finished last season ranked 12th in the conference.Â
- SMU will face six teams that were ranked in the IWSOC / United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll: No. 1 Stanford, No. 3 Duke, No.5 Vanderbilt, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 11 Virginia, and No. 23 Texas Tech.
