DALLAS (SMU) — No. 5 SMU Men's Soccer won 1-0 against NC State in its ACC Home Opener at Washburne Stadium on Friday.

In an end-to-end contest where the Mustangs outshot the Wolfpack 14 to eight, SMU took the edge with a goal from Enzo Panozzo. Panozzo scored his third goal of the season, served by Ryan Clanton-Pimentel, who recorded his third assist of the season.

SMU's defense, with Jonathan Evans in goal, has recorded five clean sheets in the first eight matches of the season. Leading the league with only three goals allowed.

The Mustangs remain undefeated with a 7-0-1 record and are 2-0-0 to start ACC play. Kevin Hudson's squad has scored 23 goals while only allowing three after eight matches.

How It Went
After a few minutes of battling for possession, the Mustangs were able to take control and create the first few chances of the match.

SMU dominated most of the first half, with more possession, but the scoreline remained scoreless after 45 minutes.

The Wolfpack took control of the start of the second half, but the Mustangs grew back into the game and took charge at the 60-minute mark.

Enzo Panozzo found the net in the 65^th minute of the match with a header for his fifth career goal. On the second phase of a free kick right outside the box, Ryan Clanton-Pimentel swung a lobbed ball to find Panozzo on the far-left post.

The defender headed the ball to the right side of the net to give SMU the 1-0 lead.

Both teams flirted with chances to add a second goal to the game in the remaining 25 minutes, but SMU held on to the 1-0 lead to claim the three ACC play points.

SMU is now tied 2-2-0 against NC State all-time.
