CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC/SMU) – SMU Men's Soccer senior Enzo Panozzo has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Panozzo was crucial in SMU's clean-sheet 1-0 win against NC State in the team's ACC Home Opener, captaining the Mustangs' defense while also scoring the winning goal.
Â
The Sarasota, Fla., native and SMU's backline held the Wolfpack to only eight shots with two on target to record the team's fifth clean sheet of the season.
This award is Panozzo's first ACC weekly award while it is the Mustangs' second weekly award of the season. He was named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week alongside Notre Dame's Blake Kelly.
SMU moved back up to No. 3 on the United Soccer Coaches poll following its 1-0 win against NC State last Friday.
Â
Panozzo and the No. 3 Mustangs have a 7-0-1 overall record and are 2-0-0 in ACC play. They will head to Blacksburg, Va., to face Virginia Tech to resume ACC play on Sunday.
