CHARLOTTE, N.C (ACC/SMU) – SMU women's soccer goalkeeper Aubrey Brown was named ACC Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Brown stepped up and turned in her best performance of the season, leading SMU to a 0-0 draw against No. 6 Stanford. The senior finished the match with a season-high nine saves, stifling the high-powered Cardinal offense, which rattled off 26 shots.
Her nine saves are tied for the most by an ACC goalkeeper this season. Six of her nine saves came in the second half to help preserve the shutout.
It was the Irving, Texas native's fifth solo shutout of the season, which is tied for first in the ACC and 20th in the NCAA. Brown has led SMU to six total shutouts this season (5 solo / 1 combined).
Thanks to Brown's play, the Mustangs remained unbeaten at home this season after drawing Stanford (5-0-3). The eight-match home unbeaten streak is the longest in a single season since 2004 (7-0-1).
Brown is the second Mustang this season to earn an ACC weekly honor. She joins Julianne Richter, who was named ACC Freshman of the Week (9/8) early this season. Â
The Mustangs will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 2, as the team will face Boston College on the road. The match will begin at 6 pm CT and air on ACCNX.
