The 20th-ranked SMU men's soccer team (14-3-0, 8-1-0 WAC), scored three goals in the last 14 minutes to pull away from San Jose State in a 5-1 win tonight in San Jose, Calif.
Five Mustangs scored for SMU, including Mohamed Fahim, who recorded his 18th goal of the season in the 35th minute after gathering the rebound on his own shot. Fahim leads the WAC in goals and has scored a goal in six straight games and in 12 of the last 13. Diego Walsh, Alex Casabielle, Carl Bussey and Carlos Sacasa also added goals for the Mustangs, and Walsh tallied three assists. Even goalkeeper Byron Foss joined in the scoring, recording his first assist of his career on Fahim's goal.
Last weekend the men clinched the Western Athletic Conference Championship and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament with a 4-0 win over Tulsa.
The Mustangs close out regular season play Sunday against Fresno State.
