Dallas, Texas -- The SMU football team began work today on fundamentals in preparation for the October 22 contest with Nevada. The team worked out for 90 minutes this afternoon at the SMU practice fields.
"We have some things to work on in order to get more consistent," said Mustang head coach Mike Cavan. "Our guys are continuing to work hard and now its just a matter of executing on game-day."
SMU worked primarily on pass routes and one-on-one drills today on offense, while the defensive unit worked on tackling drills and ball pursuit. Special teams also walked through its alignments and kicking drills during the 90-minute session. Practice ended with a 30 minute team session that saw the offensive unit and defensive unit go head-to-head. Sophomore cornerback Kevin Garrett and freshman safety Matt Rushbrook both recorded interceptions during the controlled scrimmage.
This is an open week for the Mustang football team. The next game will be October 22 versus Nevada at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
