DALLAS, TEXAS -- The SMU football worked out for the final time before this Saturday's season-opener in Shreveport, La. against Louisiana Tech. The Mustangs practiced for 90 minutes in shorts at the SMU Practice Fields.
"We've had a great camp and week of preparations," said Mustang head coach Mike Cavan. "The guys are ready to go out and hit someone else. We are looking forward to getting out on the field and competing on Saturday."
SMU focused on special teams work early in the practice, then finalized its schemes against the scout offensive and defensive units.
Cavan announced that senior Jacob Crowley will open as the Mustangs placekicker on Saturday.
"Both guys (Crowley and true freshman Chris McMurtray) have been excellent in camp," said Cavan. "Jacob has improved a lot from last year and does a good job of getting the ball up quick."
The Mustangs depart for Shreveport tomorrow afternoon. Kickoff for Saturday's game is set for 7:00 p.m. Radio coverage of the game begins on the SMU Radio Network at 6:30 p.m. The flagship station for Mustang Football is KTCK-AM in Dallas.
